FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
How long will it take for you to do my make-up?
Depending on the look required, makeup can take up to 1 hour per client. I’m a perfectionist and I take time to listen to your requirements, and work with you to create a fantastic look that you’ll be 100% happy with.
Do you have a salon or studio I can come to?
I am completely mobile and do not have any premises. I come to you!
Are your brushes and other equipment cleaned after each use?
Yes! I take great pride in my make-up kit and it’s kept extremely clean. My brushes are cleaned in a special cleaning solution after each client, and all my other applicators are disposable.
Update: due to the global outbreak of Covid-19, I have introduced more rigorous cleaning routines for all of my equipment. Additionally, I will be washing and sanitizing my hands before and after each client, and I will wear the appropriate PPE for each booking, if applicable.
Are you insured?
Yes! I hold makeup artist public liability insurance. I also hold the relevant qualifications to use the products I work with, which is a key aspect of being able to obtain insurance.
What makeup do you use?
All of the products I use are professional or premium brand make-up products. My makeup kit currently consists of brands such as Charlotte Tilbury, Natasha Denona, Danessa Myricks and Bobbi Brown.
What is a wedding consultation and makeup trial?
For many brides this is an essential part of the process, and I highly recommend that all brides have a trial if they are able to. A trial is a great opportunity for us to talk about what kind of look you’d like, and see how the make-up looks and feels on your skin. At the trial we’ll discuss ideas and we’ll practice your make-up during the session, ensuring that we find a bridal make-up look you’re 100% happy with. My bridal consultation and trial can take up to 2 hours, and this is included as part of my bridal package. Further information can be found on my wedding page. Please note: if you wish to have a longer trial, please contact me for pricing, as only 2 hours is allocated for all standard bridal trials (which is more than enough time for vast majority of clients).
Do you take bookings outside of York?
Yes! All of my prices include my travel within a 10 miles radius of York City centre. I’m more than happy to travel further afield and in these instances I charge a fee of 70p per additional mile to cover fuel and travel time. Please don’t hesitate to message me for a quote if you are unsure.
What if I need to cancel my booking with you?
If you need to cancel or change your booking with me, please let me know as soon as possible. Please note that all deposits are non-refundable.
Do you offer false eye lashes?
I do carry a selection of strip lashes in my kit (brands such as Ardell and Primalash) and these are available at no extra cost.
Do you do hair or nails?
Sorry, I do not offer a hair or nails service. I can however recommend trusted colleagues in the industry who offer these services.
What payment methods do you accept?
I can accept payment by Bank Transfer (BACS) or PayPal. Due to Covid-19 I took the decision to no longer accept cash or cheques.
Why do you ask for a deposit?
I ask for a 50% deposit for all bookings and this firmly secures your date & time in my diary, meaning that I then turn down all other requests for that same date/time. Taking a deposit is standard practice for all professional makeup artists, as it protects both the client and the makeup artist. Please note that deposits are non-refundable if you cancel your booking.
How long will the makeup last?
The products I use are professional brands, and under normal circumstances the makeup should last all day and night. I get regular feedback from my clients to say that their makeup lasted amazingly, sometimes well into the following day! However, the only element of the makeup which unfortunately won’t generally last the duration is the lipstick or lip gloss. This is impossible to avoid, as most clients will be talking, drinking and eating throughout the day/night (which naturally can affect the lipstick as time goes on).
What if you are ill and can’t do my wedding make-up?
In the very unlikely event that I am ill and cannot attend your booking, I will try my best to find another artist for you. At all bridal trials I take detailed notes of products used, meaning that a professional artist can easily recreate the look. I would like to point out that this has never happened yet, and I have been working as a freelance artist for over 7 years now!
Are you DBS checked?
Yes, I hold a current Disclosure & Barring Service certificate. These certificates prove that a person has no criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands or warnings.
Do you do partial make-overs, for example just eyes?
I do occasionally receive messages asking if I offer a reduced price service for just eye makeup or if somebody only requires a very small amount of makeup. Unfortunately I don’t offer a service for partial makeovers.
Do you have terms & conditions?
Yes, I have terms & conditions (T&Cs) that must be read and signed before the booking is finalized. Printed copies can be provided on request, but they can also be found on the following page of my website:
